Sezibwa Falls is a Buganda Cultural Heritage found in Mukono District. It is situated only 20 miles on the Kampala – Jinja Highway and about 1.5km off. The Sezibwa Falls preserves an ancient African culture and has for ages been a site of traditional cultural rituals for traditional believers. Today, Sezibwa Falls has transformed into a popular tourist destination for exciting nature adventures as well as cultural experiences. Visitors to the Sezibwa Falls are rewarded with refreshing views of the waterfalls stambling over the rocks with a gush, a lush green environment, an impressive birdlife & wildlife, beautiful rocks, and a serene, peaceful and cool atmosphere.
Sezibwa falls is a Buganda heritage site that preserves an important ancient culture. This Buganda heritage site is thought of as a powerful place where many come for blessings. In local legend, the Sezibwa and Bwanda rivers were born as twins from a woman known as Nakkungu Tebatuusa. The Bwanda River flowed east towards the mother’s village. But the Sezibwa River cut its own path and flowed west. Doing so it passed a number of difficult obstacles. Its name derives from a local phrase: sezibibwa kkubo which means “no obstacles can stop me from moving along”.Sezibwa is full of trails and for nature lovers, there are hikes along the river. A much-loved spot for bird watchers, the paths hosts all sorts of animals, mostly the bush and red-tai.While taking trails around sezibwa falls, a visitor explores the beautiful surrounding birds, butterflies, some monkeys, local farms and grasslands.
Visit the shrines and learn about the interesting traditional religion of the Buganda people and the ancient spirits that are believed to have created the Sezibwa Falls. At the shrines you will see used traditional things like coffee beans, spears, cowrie shells, bark cloth, calabashes, and pots, items that were used by the ancestors. Spirits are associated with ancestors hence traditionalists believe in using these ancient items to connect with the gods/spirits.
Attractions.
Birds: Sezibwa has about 150 bird species, and therefore an impressive birding destination. Birds to look out for include; the Olive sunbird the Cormorant, White-throated Bee-eater, Little Green Sunbird, Red-eyed Dove, Green-headed Sunbird, Lesser-strippe Swallows, Black-and-white Mankins, Great Blue Turaco, and White-chested Nigro Finch.
Camping; Sezibwa has also a ground for camping. A visitor can also appreciate nature at its best.
Rock climbing: There are quite challenging hikes around, but it gets exciting with all the great views from the top and some wildlife encounters such as skinks, lizards & sometimes snakes.
